In a major development for virtual speech therapy for children, Expressable, an Austin-based telehealth startup, has raised $28.2 million in Series B funding, bringing its total funding to $47.7 million, according to Crunchbase. The round was led by HarbourVest Partners, with participation from Digitalis Ventures, F-Prime Capital, and Lerer Hippeau. The new funding will be used to enhance Expressable’s technology platform, hire additional licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs), and strengthen its partnerships with health plans and provider organizations.

Founded in 2020, Expressable delivers Virtual Speech Therapy for Children and families in all 50 U.S. states. The company has gained national traction by offering a modern, accessible model of care that meets patients where they are—at home, online, and on their schedule.

“Speech therapy has transformational impacts on a child’s life, yet too many children today are left severely underserved, risking delayed outcomes and cost-intensive care,” said Leanne Sherred, Expressable’s President and Chief Clinical Officer.

Bridging Gaps in Care Through Technology

The traditional model for speech therapy can leave many families behind due to limited access, long waitlists, and the time and cost burden of in-person appointments. Expressable is changing that by offering Virtual Speech Therapy for Children through a flexible and family-centered approach. Their model not only connects children with highly qualified SLPs but also actively involves caregivers in the therapeutic process.

Expressable’s care model includes live video sessions, custom practice plans, and educational resources for parents—tools designed to reinforce progress outside of therapy appointments. By integrating therapy into a child’s day-to-day life, the platform promotes better outcomes and long-term developmental growth.

Currently, Expressable is in-network with hundreds of health plans, including many Medicaid programs, expanding access to care for families across income levels and geographies.

Comprehensive Services for Diverse Needs

Expressable addresses a wide range of speech and communication challenges, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Aphasia and other cognitive communication disorders
  • Lisps and articulation difficulties
  • Gender-affirming voice training
  • Delayed language development

As part of its growth strategy, the company will continue to expand its offerings in Virtual Speech Therapy for Children, with services tailored to individual needs and developmental milestones. The platform is especially valuable in the autism care space, where speech therapy is often paired with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to support social communication, expressive language, and comprehension skills.

“Generating better outcomes through their novel care model is a win-win for patients, payers, and providers that aligns incentives and addresses disparities in access,” said Michael Guiness, Principal at HarbourVest Partners.

Demand Is Rising—And So Is the Profession

The need for Virtual Speech Therapy for Children is growing faster than ever. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, speech-language pathology is projected to grow much faster than the national average for all professions. Increasing diagnoses of communication disorders, heightened awareness of early intervention, and growing demand for inclusive and remote care options are all fueling the shift to telehealth-based models.

Yet access to speech therapy remains uneven—especially in rural and underserved communities. Expressable’s virtual-first approach helps close this gap by offering Virtual Speech Therapy for Children that is just as effective as in-person treatment, but far more flexible and scalable.

A Patient-Centered Future for Pediatric Speech Therapy

By doubling down on clinical excellence and digital innovation, Expressable is redefining how families think about speech therapy. The latest round of funding will allow the company to continue scaling its impact, offering Virtual Speech Therapy for Children that is not only accessible but also personalized, evidence-based, and results-driven.

For families navigating speech or language delays, Expressable is a lifeline—providing timely intervention, expert support, and real hope for the future. As demand continues to rise, the company is poised to lead a new era of inclusive, virtual-first care.
