Headspace Health is rolling out a unified enterprise mental health platform, giving users access to a fully integrated suite of services. This initiative comes roughly a year after the $3 billion merger of digital mental health companies Headspace and Ginger, marking a significant step in their efforts to provide a comprehensive mental health solution for organizations and employees alike.

The launch represents the first time tools from both companies are available as a single, seamless platform, combining Ginger’s clinical services with Headspace’s meditation and mindfulness offerings. The goal is to create an enterprise mental health platform that supports users at every stage of their mental health journey.

Combining Clinical Services with Mindfulness Expertise

The platform offers:

  • Ginger’s on-demand coaching, therapy, and psychiatric services for professional mental health support.
  • Headspace’s meditation and mindfulness tools, helping users build healthy habits and manage stress.

“The Headspace Health unified experience is all about making it easier to engage with mental health and wellness services and to be kind to your mind, regardless of where you are on your mental health journey,” Headspace CEO Russell Glass said.

By merging Ginger’s clinical expertise with Headspace’s content creation, Headspace Health is creating an enterprise mental health platform that is both accessible and comprehensive.

Building a Unified Platform: Challenges and Insights

Karan Singh, COO of Headspace Health and co-founder of Ginger, spoke about integrating the teams during a recent MATTER conversation.

“It’s been hard and fun to bring these teams and these experiences together,” Singh said. “Coming out of this, [we’ve] built an incredibly affordable, accessible and really comprehensive enterprise mental health platform that spans mindfulness and meditation, coaching, therapy, psychiatry, and medication management for our members.”

Singh emphasized that the unified offering focuses on creating a holistic experience, meeting users’ needs from preventative self-care to acute clinical intervention.

Personalized Plans for Employees, Insights for Employers

Employees using the unified enterprise mental health platform can access personalized mental health plans and a care navigation tool, allowing them to identify appropriate services, track progress, and engage with resources tailored to their needs.

Employers benefit from actionable insights, helping them understand employee engagement and the effectiveness of workplace wellness initiatives. By combining individual support with organizational analytics, the platform sets a new standard for enterprise-focused mental health solutions.

Responding to a Global Mental Health Crisis

The rollout comes amid rising rates of depression and anxiety. The World Health Organization reports a 25% increase in anxiety and depression worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many digital mental health tools focus only on low-acuity cases. Headspace Health’s unified enterprise mental health platform, however, addresses the full spectrum of needs—from everyday stress management to acute mental health challenges—helping organizations provide truly comprehensive care.

The Journey of Ginger and Headspace

The merger brought together two complementary approaches:

  • Ginger, founded in 2011, specialized in virtual coaching, therapy, and psychiatric services. After discovering that predicting mental health issues via smartphone data wasn’t scalable in traditional healthcare, Ginger pivoted to provide direct clinical care.
  • Headspace, founded in 2010, excelled in content creation and engagement, producing Emmy-nominated meditation guides and other wellness content.

By combining these strengths, the companies were able to create an enterprise mental health platform that integrates both high-quality content and clinical care.

Lessons Learned: The Three C’s

Singh highlighted the “Three C’s” framework—Coaching, Clinical, and Content. Ginger focused on coaching and clinical services, while Headspace led on content creation.

“This complementary approach allowed us to offer a comprehensive enterprise mental health platform, addressing both preventive wellness and clinical care,” Singh said.

A First-of-Its-Kind Unified Experience

The unified platform represents the first full integration of Headspace and Ginger’s tools.

“Headspace has played a pivotal role in destigmatizing mental health for over a decade, making meditation and mindfulness accessible and effective,” said Leslie Witt, chief product and design officer of Headspace Health. “With our unified experience, we’re leveraging Headspace as the front door to a full suite of evidence-based mental health services—from self-care to coaching and psychiatric care—creating a true enterprise mental health platform.”

Competing Solutions in Digital Mental Health

Headspace Health is not alone. Calm, another virtual meditation app, recently launched a solution for payers and employers, offering condition-specific mental health programs, caregiver communication support, and medication tracking.

These developments highlight a broader industry trend: organizations are seeking enterprise mental health platforms that combine mindfulness, therapy, and clinical care to improve employee well-being.

Strategic Implications

The rollout of Headspace Health’s enterprise mental health platform positions the company to:

  • Expand access to mental health services for employees.
  • Provide scalable solutions for enterprise partners.
  • Bridge the gap between wellness content and clinical care.

By integrating content, coaching, and clinical services into a single platform, Headspace Health is delivering a solution that meets the needs of modern workplaces.

Looking Ahead

Headspace Health’s unified enterprise mental health platform represents the next evolution in digital mental health. Combining the strengths of Ginger’s clinical services and Headspace’s mindfulness content, the company is offering a robust, scalable, and comprehensive solution for organizations and employees navigating today’s mental health challenges.
